The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) recently announced the winners of the 2017 JPMA Innovation Awards. The Innovation Awards highlight some of the most exciting new products in the juvenile industry. Products are evaluated and judged based on their innovation, marketability, trend-setting potential, appeal, and usefulness. Nine category winners and one product named Best In Show were chosen by a committee of industry media representatives and retail buyers. One product also received the Parent’s Pick Award.

The 2017 Innovation Award winners are:

Feeding/Bathing/Changing Category: The Pop®, the cleaner pacifier, from Doodle & Co™ is the first ever self-protecting pacifier that pops back into its protective bubble when it hits a surface, keeping germs out. The nipple mimics the natural teat (with slight pullback). It’s safe, intuitive, and fits tiny hands. www.doddleandco.com.

Safety Category: The patented Qdos Zero-Screw Furniture Anti-Tip Kit features new technology requiring no screws. It uses unique hooks that go into the wall between studs, leaving only tiny holes.  Qdos installs easily and safely without tools and holds up to 150 lbs. This kit requires the user to pull upward to tighten. www.regallager.com.

Child Restraint Category: The 4moms Self-Installing Car Seat auto-levels and tensions itself for correct installation. Each time the carrier is connected to the base, the car seat runs a final system check to verify correct installation. The seat also includes smartphone integration for additional safety alerts and addresses other key areas of misuse. www.4moms.com.

Nursery Category: The Happiest Baby SNOO, Smart Sleeper is reported to be the most effective baby bed ever made. Invented Dr. Harvey Karp, pediatrician and author of The Happiest Baby on the Block and creator of the 5 S’s. SNOO’s groundbreaking technology features a robotic system that quickly and automatically responds to crying with increasing levels of sound and womb-like motion, often soothing upsets in seconds. The clip-in swaddle is hip safe, reduces overheating, and keeps babies safely on their backs. A weaning function allows easy transition to a crib. www.happiestbaby.com.

Play/Entertainment Category: Skip Hop Explore & More Baby’s View 3-Stage Activity Center is designed in collaboration with a pediatrician and supports a “whole body” approach to play and learning. Toys can be positioned anywhere for baby and it features a 360° rotating seat for turning, stretching, and bouncing. A Discovery Window lets baby see their feet while they play to learn cause and effect. The activity center converts to become a clean, sturdy table for coloring, playing, and more. www.skiphop.com.

On The Go Category: The Fisher-Price® On-the-Go Baby Dome is perfect for naptime or playtime. Featuring the functionality of a playard and the flexibility for use indoors and out. Easy to assemble, spacious, and light to transport (it folds flat), it’s convenient for travel. It also  features a canopy to protect baby from sun (UPF20) and bugs. www.fisher-price.com.

Carriers Category: The AEGIS Neonate Medical Wrap has been designed as the first wrap for mothers and babies, even in a hospital setting. The 2017 Best In Show and 2017 Parent’s Pick Award: The mifold grab-and-go booster seat is more than 10 times smaller than a regular booster seat, and just as safe. An advanced, compact, and portable booster seat, it is completely different from other car seats. Instead of lifting the child to position the adult belt, mifold adapts the belt to the child. The lap belt is designed to be low on the hips and contact the top of the thighs. The seat is designed to be much smaller than a child’s bottom and still be comfortable. www.mifold.com.

The Innovation Awards competition started in 1989 as the Most Innovative Product Contest and has evolved through the years to a highly recognized competition. It was officially named the “Show Off” Product Competition in 1992, however in 2003 JPMA renamed it as the Innovation Awards to more accurately represent the focus on innovation.
