For over 15 years Solmate Socks has been designing and knitting stunning mismatched socks, hats, scarves, mittens, and fingerless mittens. Marianne Wakerlin, a lifelong textile artist with a keen instinct for business, started Solmate Socks in the year 2000 on the simple idea that “Life’s too short for matching socks.”
The company grew from a room in her home to dozens of employees in three different offices in the US and the UK. In 2015 Marianne’s son Randy and daughter-in-law Lisa took over the reins. They own the North Carolina knitting mill where the socks are made. The socks are eco-friendly, American-made, and focused on fresh designs.
All products are knit from 100% recycled yarn collected from t-shirt factory remnants that are ground down and re-spun into the company’s own yarn. These recycled yarns are certified by the Global Recycling Standard and Oeko-Tex. A number of other eco-friendly organizations are involved with Solmate Socks.
Fabric content is 65% cotton, 22% polyester, 15% nylon, and 1% Lycra. Socks are machine washable and dryable. Solmate Socks are available in kids’ sizes small (ages 2-5), medium (ages 6-8), and large (ages 9-11). Baby socks are available in sizes 0-6 months, 6-12 months, and 12-24 months.
