Winners of the Kind + Jugend Innovation Awards for 2016 were recently announced during the show in Germany. Winning products were announced in eight categories, based on what judges determined were their high quality, user-friendliness, safety, and visual appeal.

The entries accepted for the competition were unusual and innovative products being presented at the show for the first time and that will be commercially available in the next season.  The jury consisted of representatives from the German Technical Control Board, the trade, and the media. The jury assessed products submitted this year by 166 companies from 27 countries.

In the category of World of Kids Care, the uniquely formed nanobebe feeding bottle from nanobebe came in first. It not only warms up mother’s milk three times faster than any other baby bottle but also preserves all the milk’s important nutrients essential for newborns.
The Rocking Baby Mattress from Finish manufacturers Familing OY was most favored in the category World of Kids Furniture. The mattress gently rocks a child to sleep with a special upward and downward movement. It is especially suitable for babies who have difficulty falling asleep

From the digital product, Smart Nursery series from Motorola Baby Binatone Communications Europe BVBA from Belgium took first place in the category World of Kids Safety at Home. It is the newest generation of digital networking in the baby environment can networking with numerous devices ranging from a camera and scale to an air humidifier and music box

The Insect Shield Grobag from British manufacturer gro-group international Ltd, trading as The Gro Company, won in the category World of Textiles. Thanks to its specially developed material, the Insect Shield Grobag provides optimal protection from insects as a sleeping bag, an ability that is not lost after washing. The textile fibers contain an insect repellent that is unobjectionable for health and repels ticks, mosquitoes, flies, or fleas.

In the category World of Toys, the cuddly Whisbear® from the Polish company Whisbear Sp. zo.o took first place. It possesses an integrated speaker that simulates a humming tone similar to that perceived by babies in the womb. Easy to operate the speaker shuts itself off automatically after about 40 minutes. The Whisbear® can also be fastened to a child’s bed or near the child in a car thanks to its magnetic arm.

The collapsible Omnio pram convinced the jury it was worthy of first place in the category World of Moving Kids. The British manufacturer Omnio Innovation Makers Ltd. scored points with the innovative design of the front wheels, which greatly simplify steering, especially on rough terrain. Thanks to its compact folding technology, the pram can be easily stored or carried as a backpack.

In the category World of Moving Kids & Travelling Kids Accessories, BedBox® from Norwegian manufacturer JETKIDS LTD took first place. Designed as a suitcase for children from 0 to 7 years of age, it has multiple other uses. BedBoxA® makes it possible to transport children while they are sitting on the suitcase and can also be unfolded to create an airplane bed for children. A comfortable mattress integrated into the suitcase.

The Dutch company Dorel Juvenile (Maxi-Cosi/BébéComfort) is the winner of the category World of Travelling Kids. Dorel’s children’s car seat AxissFix Air swayed the jury with its integrated airbags for comprehensive protection for the child. In addition, the seat is i-Size-compatible and can be rotated 360 degrees, ensuring easy operation when securing the child.

For the third time, Kind + Jugend invited young designers from around the world to submit prototypes for the fair. A jury of experts evaluated 112 designs from 22 countries. The KIDS DESIGN AWARD promotes product concepts and studies that are not yet commercially available.
In addition to winning the award, the nominated designers may be chosen for a product sponsorship by selected industry representatives. The Kids Design Award 2016 was presented to Inna Shimelmits for her product PET. PET is an innovatively shaped chair distinguished by a special degree of flexibility. It is not only a piece of furniture but also a toy that both stimulates playful creativity and promotes the motor capabilities of the child.

Kind + Jugend is the world’s leading trade fair for the baby and toddler outfitting industry. The event attracted 1,204 exhibitors from 53 countries to present their products in the areas of children’s furniture, safety seats, textile outfitting, strollers, baby care, toys, and fashion for babies and toddlers.
