Eight companies receive Kind + Jugend Innovation Award 2009
Officials at Kind + Jugend recently presented products in eight categories with the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award 2009, recognition that the products are high quality, user-friendly, safe, and visually appealing.
The winners were selected from more than 180 submitted products by an independent jury of experts for the Innovation Area at Kind + Jugend 2009.
In the category “World of Moving Baby” (strollers, carriages, and travel systems), the product Kobi from the MIMA company won first prize. The pram, with an integrated shell seat, accompanies a family through a child’s growth phases from baby to toddler, as well as toddler plus baby and two toddlers. In addition, the seat can be transformed into a carrying bag in one movement.
In the category “World of Travelling Baby,” the Maxi-Cosi Car Seat Family from the Dorel Netherlands company was winner. The “family” car seat, which comes in three parts, provides children from birth up to 3 1/2 years of age with ideal protection in the car. The jury was especially impressed by the car seat’s digital control system, which warns parents when a child isn’t properly fastened.
In the category “World of Moving Baby & Travelling Baby Accessories” (accessories for strollers, travel systems and children’s car seats), the jury unanimously named the product lolaloo from the lolaloo GmbH company as the winner. The rocking device for strollers impressed the experts with its simplicity and effectiveness. lolaloo can be quickly attached to the handle of the stroller by using two adhesive tapes and rocks the pram as if by hand, gently lulling the baby to sleep. The silent movements can be individually adjusted using the controller.
In the category “World of Baby Safety at Home” (safety-related products for babies
and toddlers at home), the winning product was the door-stopper Slam Jam from the BDI Inventions Ltd/Askopa company. “The product is simple and universal, and it can be used anywhere,” reported the jury. It can be attached to a door handle in just a few steps to prevent the door from slamming shut and trapping toddlers’ little fingers.
The kiditec Multicar from Techno Bloxx AG was the jury’s favorite in the category “World of Baby Toys” (toys for babies and toddlers). “It’s exactly the kind of toy I’ve been looking for to give to my children,” was the conclusion of one of the members of the jury. Children can use the product to build different variations.
For example, the kiditec Multicar can be a walking aid for a baby’s first steps, a pushcart, a transport cart, or a doll’s pram, and it can even be turned into a soapbox car. It helps to stimulate and encourage the child's creativity and motor skills.
Wetpets from the WetPets GbR company, a fashionable swimwear accessory was the winner in the category “World of Baby Textiles” (home textiles, baby and toddler clothes, etc.). The Wetpets, which are made from a soft fabric, are pulled over children’s water wings and protect children’s arms from scrapes and scratches. The product combines fashion, fun, and functionality according to the experts.
In the category “World of Baby Care” (hygiene products, electrical products), TIGEX won the Award. This plastic baby bathtub can be used in many different ways and grows with the child from infancy to around 18 months. Its design reduces daily water consumption through adjustable dividers. The product can be safely installed onto a bathtub and reduces physical strain caregivers.
In the category “World of Baby Furniture” (children’s furniture and accessories), the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award went to bloom GMBH for the product alma. The jury was impressed by the simplicity of the bed’s folding function, its easy storage, and compact size during transport. alma has two different mattress heights which combine the benefits of a bassinet for newborns with those of a children’s bed.
In 2009, the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award was presented for the fifth time. Eligible for the awards were all newly developed and enhanced products that were presented after Kind + Jugend 2008 or are being presented at Kind + Jugend 2009 and are different from products already available on the market in terms of form, appearance, material properties, handling and/or technology. All such products also had to be fully developed and on display at Kind + Jugend 2009.
